Blacktronica

Conceived by DJ, producer and writer, and Attica Blues frontman Charlie Dark, Blacktronica aims to showcase the emerging forms of Black electronic music from London and around the globe, and features artistes, poets, writers, architects, fashion designers and musicians. A part of the 'Brought to you by Guinness(R) Foreign Extra Stout' series.
Blacktronica is curated by Charlie Dark and presented by futuresonic
Blacktronica || club event
The club event illustrates cutting edge new music within the Blacktronica spectrum alongside music from the past that influences that sound. Music will be brought to you by such luminaries as Charlie Dark (Attica Blues/Red Clay), Seiji (Bugz In the Attic), Dego (4Hero) with international guest appearances from other players in the global Blacktronica Movement such as King Britt (Scuba/Sylk 130/Oba Funke) and Vikter Duplaix (Hollywood Records/Studio K7/ and hit producer behind acts such as Eryka Badu/D´Angelo/Musiq Soul Child and many more). Blacktronica VJs Specimen provide a multimedia dimension.
CDR || Burntprogress
CDR is an innovative event conceived by Tony Nwachukwu that celebrates – and invites the audiences to participate in – the velocity and instantaneity of this burgeoning CD-r culture. The audience is invited in advance to cut tracks to CD and bring them along to be played on the night by the DJs, opening up the format to a wider participation as well as introducing indeterminacy into the creative mix and accentuating the improvisatory role of the DJ.
Blacktronica || spoken word
In conjunction with the musical side of Blacktronica is a series of spoken word performances from some of London's leading líghts in the poetry scene. Continuing that oral tradition and shedding light that many people never knew existed.
Blacktronica || cinema
A video presentation featuring the best music videos, motion graphics and animations from Blacktronica artists and the worldwide family, alongside rare films and live performances from the icons of the Blacktronica movement including Fela Kuti at Glastonbury and the Jamaican 70s classic Rockers.
Definition of a Track || Blacktronica workshop
Definition of a Track is an intensive all day workshop that gives an insight into this very quick music production process and allows participants to make a track in a day. They will be taken through the complete construction of a piece of music from conception to finished product looking at laptop/desktop sound production, the formal and informal networks through which independent music circulates, and illustrating the bedroom culture ethic of much of today’s dance music. The outcome will be CD-r of the finished pieces of music that will be given to all the participants and played later on that night at the evening club event. The workshop will be conducted by Charlie Dark and Tony Nwachukwu from Attica Blues.
The Visual World || Blacktronica workshop
Bringing it all together, The Visual World workshop looks at the creation of the graphical image and the CD/LP covers/packages that encase the whole Blacktronica movement. The workshop looks at how to create a visual identity for a movement and culture which takes inspiration from the music, philosophy and words. Tutors will include Robbie and Leanne Bear from the design collective Thanks-and-Praise and Specimen.
